Raunds Christmas Light Switch-On 2024
The Christmas spirit shone brightly in Raunds on the evening of Sunday, 24 November, as residents gathered for the much-anticipated Christmas Light Switch-On. Although the weather had other plans, forcing the cancellation of the Christmas Market and much of the original entertainment programme, the community rallied behind an updated programme to celebrate the start of the festive season.
At 6pm, the Mayor of Raunds, Councillor Paul Byrne, and Avy from Windmill School, the winner of the children's Christmas light competition, proudly switched on the Christmas lights. The lights, twinkling against the gloomy skies, brought cheer to the residents who turned out in healthy numbers despite the rain.
The revised schedule of activities ensured there was still plenty to enjoy:
Santa and his Elves added magic to the evening, delighting children with sweets.
Georgia May delivered a brilliant live performance from the Bandstand, warming hearts with her music.
Big Heroes for Little Heroes—Minnie, Mickey, and The Grinch—brought smiles and laughter to all ages.
The Mayor expressed his gratitude for the community's resilience, saying: "It was heartwarming to see so many people brave the weather to support this cherished Raunds tradition. Whilst it certainly wasn't the event we had planned, the festive spirit remained alive and well. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to adapt the plans to ensure we could still celebrate together."
A special thank you goes out to Raunds Fish Bar and all the event sponsors whose support made this year's event possible. Despite the challenges, the evening succeeded in bringing the community together and spreading a little festive cheer.
